Grandmaster Young Ku Yun
|
In establishing Yun Jung Do, Grandmaster Yun has sought to establish an art form that retained the authentic philosophy of the true martial art, as well as being based on physical techniques that are in line with current scientific and technological developments.
Through an understanding of the art and its philosophies, practioners are constantly challenged to expand their horizons. Through both knowledge and practice, the highest ethical and moral standards are cultivated.
A Yun Jung Do practioner is expected to not only understand but also live by the five virtues of life: Wisdom, Humanity, Justice, Courtesy and Trust.
All techniques have been developed around the human body and the body's natural movement and rhythms. As a result Yun Jung Do movements are fluent, explosive, fast and powerful.
As a consequnce of the undoubted injuries that would be sustained were these techniques to be practised against a fellow student, Yun Jung Do is NON-CONTACT, although the use of target pads forms an important aspect of training.
The only exception to the non-contact rule is with the self-defence holds that are an integral facet of the syllabus and are restraint or escape techniques. These techniques are to be practised with the exercise of utmost caution and consideration for your training partner.
Within Yun Jung Do there is no competition fighting as it is the firm belief of Grandmaster Yun that, not only is the increasingly sporting element a degrading feature of martial arts, but that a martial art is essentially a competition within oneself to become a virtuous person, and to receive lifelong fulfilment from that, rather than being a competition with others for the sake of winning a momentary sense of achievement.
